SPORTS ECONOMICS CONGRESS 2024
As you are surely aware, The International Association of Sports
Economists (IASE) has been rather dormant over the past 3-4 years. Our last major conference and General Assembly was November 2017 in
Shanghai, China.
The 27th annual conference of the Arbeitskreis Sportökonomie e.V. in cooperation with the International Association of Sports Economists (IASE) will be held at the University of Bayreuth from 20 to 22 June 2024. The conference will be hosted by BaySpo - Bayreuth Centre for Sports Science at the University of Bayreuth.
Bayreuth is a charming middle-sized city in Northern Bavaria, Germany, with baroque palaces and gardens, easily accessible via Nuremberg or Munich airport. World-renowned are the Richard-Wagner and Margravial Opera Houses (the latter being UNESCO world heritage). During the conference, the beach event Summer Feeling with a diverse and entertaining programme is staged on campus.
Dear IASE members: As you know, IASE is the oldest association of sports economists (see https://www.iase-sport.org/ ), celebrating our 25th anniversary this
year. We are ready to reinvigorate IASE and expect to establish
ourselves as the premier organization for the global community of sports
economists going forward. We hope you will join us in this endeavor!
Our next major event will be the IASE Conference 2024 in June 20 to 22
at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, jointly organized with the
German Association of Sport Economics and Sport Management (AK
Sportökonomie). We will combine the conference with the UEFA EURO 2024
group stage hosted by German cities near to the conference venue, such
as Frankfurt, Leipzig, and Munich.Note that the deadline for abstract submission is soon approaching on
January 31, 2024. However, it is a ‘soft deadline’ meant to facilitate
early travel plans. You may submit later. In that case, a brief message
to the conference email AK-IASE2024@uni-bayreuth.de announcing your
abstract is appreciated.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us in Reading and/or
Bayreuth!
Moving forward, IASE expects to host annual meetings, sometimes in
partnership with other organizations (e.g., SESM and WEAI). We will also
propose workshops on specific sports economics topics. Feel free to
contact us if you have any suggestions or if you are willing to host an
annual meeting, workshop format or the like.
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Best regards,
Joel Maxcy (President IASE)
Markus Kurscheidt (Vice-President IASE, Host of AK-IASE 2024)
Jean-François Brocard (Secretary General IASE)

However, we remained partners of the annual “Sport Economics & Sport
Management” (SESM) conference during the past years (see
https://sesmberlin.wixsite.com/smse) organized by Professor Georg
Stadtmann.
The 7th issue will be hosted by Professor James Reade (j.j.reade@reading.ac.uk) at the University of Reading, UK, near to London, in conjunction with the 3rd Reading Football Economics Conference on May 7-8, 2024.
The Department of Economics at the University of Reading will host the 3rd Reading Football Economics Conference and the 7th Sport Economics Sport Management International Conference in conjunction with the International Association of Sports Economists (https://www.iase-sport.org) concurrently. This event is generously sponsored by the Sports Economics Review, published by Elsevier, and the keynote speaker for the event will be Colin Camerer, of the California Institute of Technology.
We invite submissions in all areas of sport, and areas of economics and management where a sporting application yields significant insight. Presentations on May 7-8 will be organised into sessions relating to the two conferences taking place at the same time in Reading. Depending on the volume of submissions, parallel sessions may be organised.
Keynote speakers, and details regarding any (small) conference fees and any associated conference events, will be confirmed in due course.
Submissions should be made here: https://forms.office.com/e/QajUZrXcLx. This joint conference forms part of the European Spring Tour of Sport Economics, four conferences in early May 2024. In addition to the 3RFEC/7SESM there will be:
